Dr. Brian Fertig


Experience Dr. Fertig’s innovative and exceptionally skilled level of care.

 

Since graduating from medical school in 1989, Dr. Fertig has risen to the top of his discipline of Endocrinology. He has earned numerous recognitions and honors along the way.

Dr. Fertig has always been an outspoken advocate for patient health. In 1990 he spoke at a nationally televised Cholesterol Screening Program sponsored by St. Elizabeth Hospital in Elizabeth, NJ.  In 1992 he developed a New Combined Telemetry/IMCU Teaching Service at Englewood Hospital and Medical Center in NJ. That same year they honored him with the Chief Resident Award.  In 1993 he went on to organize the development of a Diabetes Clinic for Heart Transplant patients at the Hospital University of Pennsylvania. Always at the forefront of developing medical practices, his development of an Authorized Insulin Drip Hospital Protocol for the critically ill was used by Muhlenberg Regional Medical Center (MRMC) until it’s closing in 2008. In addition, it remains protocol at JFK Medical Center (JFKMC) in Edison, NJ and Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital (RWJUH) in Rahway, NJ.

Brian Fertig, MD has shared his wealth of practical information with medical students and residents as a teaching assistant for St. Georges University, School of Medicine, clinical instructor at The Mount Sinai Medical Center in NY and as Chief Resident at Englewood Medical Center. In addition, he teaches medical students from RWJ Medical School and residents from JFKMC on rotation through his office. 

He continues to educate those in the medical profession through his on-going and frequent speaking engagements often sponsored by companies such as: NovoNordisk, Novartis, Bristol-Meyers Squibb, Pfizer, Solvay Pharmaceuticals, Eli Lilly & Company, Sanofi-Aventis, Amylin Pharmaceuticals, Auxiliium Pharmaceuticals and Merck.   

Dr. Fertig is continually writing about new developments in Endocrinology. His current articles; “Modern Concepts of Diabetes”, “Vitamin D Dificiency – An Unrecognized Edpidemic”, “Sinking Your Teeth into Diabetes”, “Hypertension as a Function of Systemic Insulin Resistance”, and “Diabesity and Nutritional Self-Management”; often appear in local publications, most recently in the Tri-County Journal. He is also the primary author of “Therapies for Diabetes”, Diabetes in America, Chapter 25, published by the National Institute of Health. Additionally other works; “Disparity Between Electrical & Mechanical Systole after Spontaneous Conversion of Chronic Atrial Fibrillation: Doppler Proof”, “Recurrence of Malignant Melanoma: a Case Report”, “Pathologically Proven Efficacy of Tamoxifen Therapy in a Patient with Unresectable Hepatoma”, “Severe Raynaud’s Phenomenon and Acral Necrosis in a Patient with AIDS”, and “An Epidemiologic Ten Year Review of 220 Patients with Pancreatic Carcinoma in a Community Hospital Center” ; have been published in abstract competitions.

Dr. Fertig is currently working on a book publication on metabolic healthcare, expected to be his proudest accomplishment.

He has been the recipient of numerous prestigious awards including the Consumer Research Council of America’s “America’s Top Physicians”, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, and 2009 edition. His office lab has also been honored with COLA’s Laboratory Excellence Award in 2002–2004 and 2006–2008. Notably, only 4 office labs have earned this award in NJ those particular years.

Dr. Fertig treats patients at his Diabetes & Osteoporosis Center in Piscataway, NJ. He also has attending privileges at RWJ, Rahway, NJ, JFK Medical Center, Edison, NJ and Somerset Medical Center, Somerville, NJ.
